Verdant Press

Plataforma editorial con CMS para una editorial independiente, construida para velocidad, accesibilidad y una experiencia de lectura impecable.

CMSDesarrollo WebBilingüe

Verdant Press, an independent publisher focused on literary fiction and translated essays, had outgrown its WordPress site. Performance issues, maintenance overhead, and a poor long-form reading experience made the platform a liability for both readers and editors. Their editorial workflow—spanning multiple editors, translators, and a nuanced review process—demanded a CMS that could support complex collaboration without slowing it down.

To solve this, we rebuilt the platform around Sanity, chosen for its Portable Text format that delivers rich, structured content without the fragility of traditional HTML WYSIWYG editors. Paired with Next.js and Tailwind CSS, the new site is engineered specifically for immersive, long-form reading.

Architecture & Experience

  • Typography-first design: Every decision centers on readability. Body text is set in a serif at 20px with a 1.8 line height and carefully tuned measure widths, optimized for 10+ minute reading sessions across devices.
  • Bilingual content model: Articles exist in both Spanish and English, sharing metadata while maintaining independent body content, allowing faithful translations without compromising structure.
  • Algolia-powered search: Full-text indexing across both languages with accent-insensitive queries ensures readers can quickly find works, authors, and themes regardless of input variations.
  • Static generation with on-demand ISR: All published content is statically generated and served via Vercel’s edge network. When editors update a piece, on-demand ISR refreshes the cache within seconds—readers always get fast, cached pages, while editors see near-instant updates.

The visual design embraces deliberate restraint: no hero images competing with the prose, no distracting sidebars—just text, whitespace, and subtle hierarchy that keeps attention on the words.

Outcomes

Since launching with Verdant Press’s spring catalog, the platform has become a reference point in the independent publishing community for digital reading experiences:

  • 65% increase in average reading time per article
  • Sub-1-second page loads globally via Vercel’s edge network
  • 100% editor autonomy, with zero developer intervention needed for content changes
  • Recognition in a case study by the Independent Publishers Association for digital innovation

By treating text as a first-class citizen—both technically and visually—the new Verdant Press site aligns the reading experience with the care and craft of their books.
